The association was formed in order to satisfy the obstacles faced by the nautical diplomates in University of Moratuwa during their career. One of the main concerns is loan facilitating project. This system allows students to withdraw loans for their academic purposes under easy payment regulations.
  The association stands completely for the betterment of the personal who follows the nautical studies university of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.
Other than that NDA volunteers for the educational development of students in way such like providing text books, students preparation for oral test.

Objectives of the association

• To enable members to meet and to correspond.
 
• To maintain and improve the status of members and the profession of seafarers
 
• To regulate the professional activities and to assist, encourage, and maintain a high and honorable standard of ability and professional conduct of members.
 
• To provide opportunities and facilities for the members for the discussion and study of matters concerning or affecting navigation and nautical science.
 
• To permit, publish and news letters, periodicals, books or leaflets for the promotion of the objectives of the association.
 
• To invest any money of the association not immediately required for any of its objectives in such securities and with such sanction (if any) as may from time to time be prescribed by low.
 
• To provide financial assistance to member seafarers in need.

Provide however that the association shall not support with its funds, or endeavor to impose upon. Or procure to be observed by its members or others, any regulation or restriction which, if an objective of the association, would make it a trade union.
